Running On Empty
I've been blogging for about 10 and a half months now. I used to REALLY enjoy blogging. I rememeber even coming up with 3 posts in a day and still have enough energy in me to answer every single comment.
I started blogging for pesonal reasons, one of which was so I could give vent to my emotions, mostly angst. I used to think that venting in a blog is helpful. Now I know better. It's so much like saying something in anger. You can never take it back.
I used to get upset and defensive whenever I get mean, rude, and/or offensive comments especially by assholes who don't even have the courage to drop their own names. If you've been reading my blog, you'd know what I'm talking about.
After receiving a couple of nasty comments some months ago, I avoided answering comments altogether.
Don't get me wrong, I love receiving comments. I get a thrill knowing that someone I don't know on a personal level can relate to something I wrote about. That, I think, kept me going.
So I started to filter my posts, oftentimes steering from personal topics in fear of being accused a narcissist. I had to filter practically everything, sometimes leaving me with nothing to write about.
Having said all that, why on earth do I keep blogging?
Any writer writes in hope of having his work read. Much like how a singer would want his music played or heard. Or any single being wishing to reach out to someone. I don't think that's being narcissistic.
And knowing that if I focus too much on what other people say, what other people think, and what other people choose to believe about me - I will never be happy.
It's the invisible threads you weave around you and the wonderful people you meet along the way that make it worthwhile. Much more significant than any comment and way bigger than myself.

very well said... i guess that's our (bloggers) problem, we blog because we need a medium to express ourselves and once we started gaining readers we tend to stop blogging about things that matters to us or things that we really want to blog at all...
Black mamba -
Try to remember that what anyone may say, negative-wise is MUCH MORE a reflection on *them* then it *ever* could possibly be towards you.
There's a reason why people *hide* behind a nickname to say mean things. Think about it. Anyone who has any strength of character at all, would stand behind what they say, and are strong enough of a person to say it outright and direct.
Those who don't, it says much more about them and how they feel about themselves as a person.
Write for yourself.
Anyone else???...the hell with them!
;)

it's your blog. it's your opinion. your rant. your rage. if they don't like what you write then they should just go away . if they comment negatively, so what? you're not blogging to please them, right?
have a nice day. =)
Expressing oneself can never be considered narcissism. Say what you want, ate. It's your blog, we should be honoured that we are able to read what's in your heart.
Just continue writing what you want to write. It's your own blog anyway. I'm sure there's more people who appreciate what you write and that would motivate you write more! Happy blogging!!
Sorry that a few hateful people have taken something from you that you enjoy. You should snub your nose at them and take it back!
its based on the kevn spacey character in the usual suspects :) ooops..i spoiled it for u
Hey Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog and for trying out the potion. Have you tried the rose bath yet? btw, is it ok if i link with you?
Salamat Ms. Chuvaness...:)

Your blog, your show. Nasty comments, just delete them. They don't know you. Nobody has the right to judge anyone.
Keep on blogging!
Oh poor baby. Who in the hell cares what the nay sayers have to say anyways. You say what you feel like saying. I agree with all the others. Delete the assholes!
Hi Ivy
Oh boy, can I relate to this....and I wouldn't be one really to give you advice on this. Take the advice Greeneyezz gives you. Her advice is what got me back to posting my work online again. However, I can state my opinion, right? Let's see. After canning my blog twice, yes twice .... with a litany of rants and tirades, I've come to realize that I write for myself and put it out there for others to read. If they don't like it, who cares. If it stirs up controversy .... so much the better. Your approach I feel has been the best and I wish I had done so instead of posting my vents and frustrations with some colorful language to boot, then deleting my blogs and in the process alienating some well meaning readers. You walked away for a while, stop commenting for a while. When you're ready and want to pour yourself back into your blog... those of us who are fans of your writing will be there waiting.
Take care.

BTW I closed my email. Waaay too much Spam. I can still be contacted by BlogCatalog though. :-)
To everyone who commented, thank you!
Toni, they haven't and they can't - ever! :)
Maricris, I haven't but I will. Thanks for the link, I'll update mine this weekend ;)
J.D., The word 'fans' made me blush. I wish though but I am but a mere blogger LOL.....
Ivy, no matter what we do, we will always have people critising us. A quotation from Abraham Lincoln, which I always use to remind myself, "I do not let what others said about me bother me as long as I know they are not speaking the truth of me."
I think it's the sign that we are more mature when we begin to understand: not everything is to say, not everybody is good ecc. Maybe it's not sooo..
Ate,
Why on earth would you want to keep blogging?
Because there are those people, like me, who likes to read your post and wants to know how you're doing. Kung baga parang kapitbahay ka na. Gustong kamustahin, gustong malaman kung ano na ang nangyayari sayo.
And you're one of my favorite bloggers. Idk about being a narcissists, all I know is ikaw ay isang honest na blogger and that's it.
Anyway, if you're thinking na tumigil muna..we'll wait na lang cguro. Pag nakita naming may isang update post sa blog mo magbibigay sa min un ng ngiti..and we'll say..oh she's back.
Hi Ms. Ivy. I've been reading your blog for a few months now and I love how you well you write. Being a Pinay myself, I can say that I can truly identify with your blog. May mga tao lang talaga na walang magawa sa buhay, di na pinapansin yung mga ganun. Just keep writing :)
way to go. don't ever take the nasty bits they leave upon yourself. leave the remarks with the persons who left them and let them be a mark on the kind of people they are, not on you... never on you. :)
Looks like you go too personal here. It is a good mark of 10 months blogging. You have great traffic with good page rank. Luckily, I don't belong to the group you mention because I always leave my link on all my comments.
I for one blog about what ever I feel like. most of the time. I try not to go on tirades.but sometimes thay do happen. I have had to go to commement mediation after being attracked by a spammer and spent an hour and a half just deleting the spam from my site.
is some one has something nasty to say to me and I do not like it I just delete the comment.I always try to resopnd positivly to my commentors. I do hope that you are haveing a great day!Mike G. said that (It's an A.A.thing of mine)
though i do not blog to rant and express what i want to say since maybe i am not comfortable with the idea of exposing all my thoughts, i blog to share the wonderful joys of nature that refereshes our soul and energize our spirit. but i can totally relate to what you meant. i am sorry if you feel somehow a little bit restricted now, on the other hand, it shows also a lot about your character, that you are growing and very much a sensitive person. a lot of the times we do not have to think only of ourselves and "me, me, me" but we also have to consider others and give them their due respect. and i salute you for that, your change means one thing to me, you have so much respect for yourself and others. and it shows great strength in your character. keep it up, and more power to you. God bless.
