Denouncing Suffrage
The first time I voted was in 1998. It was also the last.
The voting precint is right next to where we live so I don't think it's an inconvenience.
Sloth is a sin I don't think I've ever been guilty of. Just take a look at the number of posts I did in the last 2 months and I assure you, you cannot accuse me of being lazy.
So why, oh why, denounce a right that so many suffragettes fought for???
Philippine politics, in my humble opinion, is in a state of decadence. Sheer and utter decay. Public service turned into self service. What should be a noble profession is merely a business transaction.
Let me start with the candidates. Take your pick - celebrities, ex-matinee idols, ex-burlesque queens, boxers, retired basketball players, and my favorite category - the next of kin - the husband, the son, the daughter, the son-in-law, the daughter-in-law, heck even the grandchild of the incumbent want their share of power. Kamag-anak Inc. There is only a handful of sincere candidates out there (less than 10, IMO).
Don't get me started on Pork Barrel. I've already written something on it on my The Philippines Through the Eyes of A Filipina post. In case you didn't read it, I'll say it again. The Pork Barrel A.K.A. Countrywide Development Fund (CDF) A.K.A. Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) are funds given to members of the Senate and Congress. These are discretionary in nature so it is up to the senator or congressman to identify the projects that will be funded from these funds. Correct me if I'm wrong, senators get a whopping P 200 million (about $4.65 million USD) each, while the congressmen are allotted about P 70 million (about $1.62 million USD) each. Sheesh, I'm starting to sound like a broken record. So where, oh where does all the money go??? oink oink oink. Let me just give you an example, or better yet, I'll show you.................
Congressmen (esp. women) love building waiting sheds and plant boxes........
Hair & Makeup + Diamond earrings + Color Separation + Tarpaulin printing > GI pipes + scraps of plywood
Potholes galore.........Why not at least spend on that???
What about the squatters in Metro Manila??? This happens to be right behind a huge goverment facility, and I'm not telling where..............
Principles, my dears. Something I think every person should have, only a handful have, and (almost, I'm not saying all) no politician thinks he needs...............

Nice Blog :)
Well said..buti ginawa mo itong blog na ito...masyado akong tamad lately at nauubusan ako ng ingles...
At yeah...di ka tamad...everyday ata may 3 kang blog...
I think the other day i stopped by your blog and read a post and then after an hour naisipan kong pumunta ulit s blog moh..meron n naman...ai!....
Hahahaha...
This one is really well done...gusto ko ung mga blog moh about politics and ung mga sakit ng filipino(hmmmm....)...
I was born in Philippines, but grew up in Canada. Although I may have some disagreements with the views of the Canadian Government, I have always been baffled at the Philippines Political views. Although I do not understand its politics very well, I am somewhat sad that it has not made any progression. What will it take for the Philippines to progress in the right direction?
teri,
thanks....
julie,
christian,
i do not understand politics well either BUT seeing the lifestyles of these politicians tsk tsk......
SHAMELESS is the word that comes to mind.......
PROGRESS??? our country? i don't think so. you should see their mansions, huge SUV's, porsche(s) and lamborghinis......
thanks for the concern, glad to hear that a kababayan from afar cares. please do read this if you have the time http://blackbaies.blogspot.com/2007/10/philippines-through-eyes-of-filipina.html
thanks again ;)
I feel the same way ivy...luckily i know some people are stopping by my blog and spare some time reading it so indi ko xa tinitigilan...
For christian:
Hmmmm....it seems like progress is a word from another planet.
The hopes of progression rest on Filipino youths but unfortunately it's not happening because at an early age they are exposed to corruption and power that in the future when they get their turn as leaders (politicians) they tend to become like the leaders we have now or worst.
Another problem is...i'm not sure of the term but in Filipino there's such thing as UTANG NA LOOB (debt of gratitude?) and that's a problem in politics...
Everything is a problem ^_^
Should we act?
Excellent post Ivy!
I couldn't have said it better, about the state of Philippine politics. I agree with you that we are in one hell of a situation here. Those who are supposed to lead us are the ones giving bad examples, starting with the election.
But there is also this parliamentary principle, I did not make any research, naalala ko lang from college debate, na in order for you to validly present a contrary opinion dapat mag participate ka muna sa proceedings. I mean, tulad nyan, I gather from your post that you did not vote, and I know you have the right reasons for I have them too. But for me, I participated in the elections so may right akong magreklamo, kung meron man, kasi kasali ako. My vote may have been in vain, kung halimbawang natalo man dahil sa dayaan ang kandidato ko, whether now or in the last national elections, but then, if I choose (but I didn't) to protest, may boses ako kasi sumali ako sa botohan.
I admire your courage in expressing your outrage against our politicians, with matchig pictures pa! Ipagpatuloy and mabuhay ka, Ivy!
Hi Ivy,
I also didn't exercise my right to suffrage! I don't believe in Philippine politics! It's the same thought of not minding others business. I'd rather work on my own than relying to those nonsense and corrupt politicians! Just added a link to your site! You may view your comment and see that it shows a display of your entry when you comment to mine! That's amazing!
I hope you dont mind

Julie,
thank you ....
Jason,
thanks.
stopped by your page, looks like you've managed to finally update it. looks really smashing BTW ;)
Rino,
there are days that I feel really guilty about my choice but really, among the choices, wala talaga ako mapili, at kung meron man, i'm sure as soon as makaupo mauuna na naman ang mga pangsarili nilang motibo. kapag mag senador o kongresistang umalma sa pork barrel na yan, baka sakali, boboto na siguro ako.
Xerendipity,
thank you. ikinagagalak kong napadpad ka ;)
Isagani,

Interesting post.
Sadly speaking, corruptions is a major dilemma in every 3rd world countries.
I was born in Indonesia and spent my childhood there.
Frankly, your country is better than my 'birth-land'.
Take care there ^_^

you write your essays well, maganda ang mga photo essays mo keep it up, yong jump wiring sobrang common din siya sa tinitirhan ko here in manila, everybody seems to be tolerating each other, kawawa talaga ang mga nagbabayad ng mataas sa kuryente na di naman nila ginamit^^
Annita,
I beg to disagree. I think we have the worst politicians in the world to begin with lol.....
